Iggy Pop: Lust For Life
Iggy Pop sitt andre for året 1977 er det fjerde og siste i min Bowie-serie. Det er ikkje så totalt Bowie-dominert som det forrige, sjølv om han har delprodusert og skrive det meste.
Lust for Life er nok det mest tradisjonell albumet, i den forstand at det er sett saman av ei rad enkeltlåtar. Det er også dermed det mest ujamne. Det opnar med det ihelspelte (Trainspotting++) men veldig tøffe tittelsporet, går via nokre rockarar av ulik kvalitet til den suggerande avslutninga med “Fall In Love With Me”. Midt inni, ein kandidat til tidenes rockelåt: The Passenger.
Den har ikkje musikk av David Bowie, men Ricky Gardener. Den har eit monotont og råtøfft riff som går og går, og ein Pop-tekst som alltid gjer meg lyst til å strene ut til nærmaste tyske cabriolet og køyre avgarde. Teksten handlar rett nok om å sitte på S-bahn (den overjordiske delen av Berlin sitt T-bane system).
Denne plata er nærare Pop sine rockerøtter enn nokon av dei andre Berlin-platene. Bowie sin innverknad er der mest som låtskrivar. Det er dette formatet Iggy Pop tek med seg vidare inn i 80-talet. Den er ujamn, men går likevel utan på dei fleste album – ikkje minst fordi toppane er så høgt oppe.
Den avsluttar Berli-tida til Bowie. Han skapte Berlin-soundet, sterkt påverka av Brian Eno (her vil eg i parantes nemne at eg har blitt teke for å hevde at Eno har produsert Bowieplatene frå 77. Det har han jo ikkje) og tysk elektronika, og blanda det med sitt eige. Han tok med seg denne kombinasjonen vidare til Iggy Pop og sprøyta det inn i låtar og soundet på “The Idiot”. Resulat; fire fantastiske album på eit år.
