Vi er i Oslo i 2003 (eller 2002?), på restauranten Arakataka rett ved Rockefeller. Kona mi og eg et middag med nokre vener før ein konsert eg gler meg enormt til. Jakka glir ned frå stolen kona sit på, og ein amerikanar på nabobordet lener seg ned og plukkar den opp. Eg blir merksam på dei 4-5 halvfeite 50-noko amerikanarane som sit der i lag med eit par unge nordmenn. The Residents er kanskje det mest myteomspunne og mystiske bandet i rockehistorien. Dei har gjennom heile sin 35-40 årige karriere opptredd i ulike masker. Mest kjent er dei store augeballane som du kan sjå på klippet under. Eg kjenner eit par stykker som kjenner eit par stykker som har høyrt om nokon som har sett dei uten masker. Så er det eg, som faktisk trur eg har sett dei.
Maskene har nok bidratt til mystikken, men det er musikken som har gitt popularitet og status. Det er eit av dei mest orginale banda i rocken, med ein enorm produskjon sidan 1974. Sjekk denne imponerande diskografien. Det er stor variasjon. Uforståeleg kunstmusikk, skrudd pop, episke forteljingar, skrik og gitarstøy er blant ingrediensane. Dei har covra Stones, James Brown, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, George Gershwin, John Phillip Sousa og mange andre. Høyrest sprøtt ut? Ja, men samstundes fengande og orginalt, både i lyd og opptreden. Du må sjekke opp The Residents. Kor skal du starte?
Kanskje med “Live in Holland – The 13th Anniversary Show” frå den store 1987-turneen. Denne finst i ulike versjonar, og er ei liveinnspeling frå høgda av karrieren. Mykje av det beste dei har gjort finst her, mange av innspelingane har noko ekstra i høve til orginalen. Deira faste følgesvenn, gitaristen Snakefinger, er også med her.
PS! Dei spelte i Noreg også på denne turneen. På mi utgåve står det “special thanks to the people of Tromsoe, Norway” på innercoveret. Eg har alltid lurt på kvifor. Nokon som kan hjelpe meg? Om nokon kan stadfeste om eg såg Residents eller ikkje på restaurant Oslo blir eg glad for det og!
Under er “Cry for the Fire” frå denne turneen og ein video av “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” som er på plata. Det er spesielt, også veldig flott.

Fuglemiljøet på Utsira er sterkt influert fra The Residents miljøet i Fredrikstad/Oslo og obligatorisk musikk på sammenkomster i fuglemijøet.

Hei! The Residents spilte på ungdommens hus i Tromsø, den 3 okt 1986. Dette var starten/åpningen på deres verdensturne “The 13th Anniversary Show” (Tøfft)
Alt av musikkutstyr/kostymer o.l ankom ikke Tromsø, men London. Men med hjelp fra folk i Tromsø kunne di få gjennomført en utrolig spektakulær konsert. En kjenning av meg kjørte dem fra Flyplassen til hotellet(enda tøffere). Dem spiste fisk ,hvalkjøtt og storkoste seg visstnok i Tromsø. Jeg var der og har mange bilder av dem inkl. Snakefinger med eller uten maske:-)
