Lang dag – og ei tabloid verd
Lang dag, som dagane gjerne er no. Det er relativt vanleg at kveldane inneheld fleire timer med arbeid før eg kan legge meg ein gong mellom 11 (deilig) og 1 (for seint). Så også i dag, eg har i tillegg til sjølvmeldinga lest nokre sakspapir, ringt litt (viktig del av jobben for ein politikar) og førebudd meg til eit foredrag i morgon.
På veg i seng oppdagar eg på framsida av VG.no overskrifta “Facebook på skolen kan bli forbudt” under eit bilete av meg sjølv. Som politikar er du vant til litt av kvart, så eg les roleg artikkelen. Dette er eit interessant døme på mediedynamikken som eg kan smile litt av, fordi det truleg ikkje blir den heilt store saka. Litt om det:
VG.no har “facebook på skolen kan bli forbudt” på framsida. I artikkelen er overskrifta “Vil straffe facebook-bruk i skoletida”. Eg er sitert slik; – Vi må få elevene til å forstå at vi må sette klare grenser for bruk av Facebook i skolen og ha sanksjoner. Men det skal være lokal handlingsfrihet. Den enkelte skole og lærer må avgjøre.
Altså noko anna. Det har eg likevel aldri snakka med VG om. Dei har saksa det frå NRK Hordaland. Dei har eg heller aldri snakka med om det, dei har sikkert sett foredraget mitt på den konferansen i Bergen dei refererer til og som denne dama stod i spissen for. Overskrifta er “Krever restriksjoner på facebook”.
Eg snakka i ein halv time om kor viktig IKT og web 2.0 og argumenterte for at dette er nødvendig og viktig i skulen, og eit godt verktøy. Foredraget ligg ute på nettet, gå inn her. Eg spola fram til det punktet dei har tatt tak i og skreiv ned det eg faktisk sa (litt korta ned) om Facebook og forbod. Eg sa først at det viktige ikkje er å kritisere verktøyet, men korleis det vert brukt. Så refererte eg til at eg av og til får spørsmål om forbod i klasserommet:
“Det skal vere opp til den lokale handlefriheten. Det er neppe (riktig) å forby, men å sørge for det samme som ellers. Sette klare grenser, ha klare regler, få elever til å forstå og vere med på dei, ha sanksjonar når dei blir brutt”
Med andre ord, noko heilt anna. I grunn det stikk motsatte av den siste overskrifta! Fascinerande. Det hadde vore interessant å høyre kva nokre av dokke som var i salen oppfatta at eg sa?

Dette må vera utruleg irriterande! Alle veit jo at dette skjer heile tida, likevel, når ein les avisa, må ein jo til ein viss grad inngå ein slags kontrakt med journalisten om at ein skal tru på det ein les. Og så kan inntrykk festa seg, om dei er aldri så skeive.
Eg får snakka for meg sjølv når det gjeld korleis du vart oppfatta på konferansen: Du var særdeles klar og vanskeleg å misforstå. At det skulle vera mogleg å gå derifrå med ei oppfatning av at ministeren “krever restriksjoner på facebook”, er meg ei gåte.
Men er det ikkje fint å ha ein blogg som ingen journalistar kan rote med?

Jeg var ikke på konferansen, men fikk sett opptak av innlegget ditt på nett senere. Jeg forstår heller ikke hvordan det som ble sagt kunne tolkes dithet at ministeren “krever restriksjoner på facebook”. Jeg må innrømme at jeg begynte faktisk å lure på om det var jeg som hadde misforstått når disse avisoverskriftene dukket opp.
Med tanke på at det nok fremdeles er flere (desverre) som leser bl.a. VG enn denne bloggen er det kanskje viktig å få ordnet opp i denne misforståelsen.
(Ellers så er det jo litt morsomt med bilde av deg i VG med “pekefinger” og bildeteksten “NEI, NEI GUTT DETTE MÅ BLI SLUTT”)

Fordelen med å være aktiv i nettdebatten, er at vi som leser hva du skriver når du deltar i den, skjønte at VG tok feil.
Det var godt at du skrev et blogginnlegg om denne tabben, og det er et eksempel på hva nettaviser må forholde seg til på en måte som tvinger frem bedre journalistikk.
På nettet slipper du ikke unna med å skrive en sak der du feilsiterer eller på annen måte vinkler det hele feil.
VG og journalisten har derfor bare ett alternativ: Rette feilen, beklage og ta lærdom til neste gang.
Over litt tid vil dette tvinge frem journalistikk 2.0, en kvalitetsjournalistikk ingen tidligere har opplevd.

Jeg er bare så utrolig takknemlig for at jeg får gode og rykende ferske eksempler til dagens journalistikk-undervisning. For meg blir utfordringen at saken ikke blir nok et eksempel på at “vi kan ikke stole på journalister”, og nok en grunn til at elevene mine ikke snuser på journalistikkyrket, men at jeg for journalistikkens del klarer å formidle at det også går an å ha den optimistiske holdningen som Anders Brenna, Nettsjef i Teknisk Ukeblad.

Det skjer hele tida og med alle som lar seg intervjue og en del som ikke gjør det. Det skjer så ofte at det er så godt som meningsløst å bare stole på det en leser i avisa, i beste fall kan en bli interessert nok til å gå til kilden. Takk og lov at internett i hvert fall gjør det mulig store deler av tida.

Flott at du pressiserer den misoppfatningen vedkommende journalist som har skrevet artikkelen har gjort. Vi som var i salen oppfattet deg ikke slik, og jeg fikk mange tilbakemeldinger etter foredraget ditt. Du fikk ros for å være tydelig og klar, og jeg fikk bare fornøyde responser. At læreren er leder i klasserommet og i noen henseeende sier at nå gjør vi dette, og ikke noe annet, er en helt annen problemstilling enn å stenge for ulike nettsteder. I Hordaland har vi en klar politikk på dette: pedagogikken skal styre, læreren er leder, vi må ta andre virkemidler i bruk enn å stenge nettet. Elevene skal lære seg å håndtere den åpenheten nettet medfører, det er og en viktig digital kompetanse.

Noe må hvertfall gjøres, som IT-ansvarlig på en skole ligger facebook øverst på listen over hva som surfes på på denne skolen.
Ikke bare ligger den øverst, det er mer trafikk til facebook enn hva det er til de andre “9-på-topp” tilsammen.
Jeg tror ikke det er mye tvil om at dette er forstyrrende for undervisningen.

Som medieviter kan jeg bare nikke gjenkjennende, dette er et veldig godt eksempel på medievridning. Konsekvens av at (særlig) markedsorienterte aviser selger seg med forsiden, og at arbeidsprosessen en nyhetssak gjennomgår er preget av rutiner, (for) raske deadlines og mangel på kvalitetssikring.

Det fine med dette blogginnlegget er at det er med på å vise hvordan en tabloid nyhetsartikkel blir til. En avis sakset en avis som hadde hørt feil. Jeg hadde ikke skrevet et blogginnlegg på bakgrunn av så dårlig informasjon.

Først en rettele til ditt innlegg:
Artikkelen er ikke skrevet av en VG Nett-journalist men av Norsk Telegrambyrå. Jeg kjenner ikke til hvordan NTB har arbeidet med denne saken, men det kan virke som at den er basert på en artikkel skrevet av NRK-journalist Roy Hilmar Svendsen.
Tittelen på selve artikkelen er: ”Vil straffe Facebook-bruk i skoletiden”. På vår nyhetsdesk er dette blitt til “Facebook på skolen kan bli forbudt”.
Denne tittelen er det jo åpenbart ikke dekning for, så her må jeg på vegne av VG Nett beklage!
Dette er et godt eksempel på hvordan sosiale medier og nettpublisering tvinger fram bedre kvalitet – bedre journalistikk. Du som kilde kan påpeke feil, og du kan dokumentere det du faktisk sa fordi arrangøren av konferansen har lagt ut videoopptak av hele talen. I tillegg bidrar deltakere på konferansen med egne blogginnlegg og synspunkter. Ditt blogginnlegg blir plukket opp på Twitter fordi du har et relevant poeng, og slik når saken meg.
Vi har på få år gått fra en virkelighet hvor noen få medier, og noen få politikere, eksperter organisasjoner etc hadde tilnærmet monopol på å tale i det offentlige rom. Den tiden er forbi. Nå er vi alle deler av en stor samtale.
Jeg er overbevist om at det er en god utvikling. Det er en absolutt demokratisering av muligheten til å ytre seg. Hvis ytringsfrihet er et gode, må det være et større gode at flere får muligheten til å ytre seg! Jeg er derfor glad for at vår tittel ”Facebook på skolen kan bli forbudt” ikke er dekkende for hva du som kunnskapsminister mener. Skolen kan ikke lukke Nettby (70% av norske tenåringer er medlem) og Facebook ute uten samtidig å lukke ute en viktig del av virkeligheten. Skolen må sette barn i stand til å bruke sosiale medier på en god måte – ikke lukke øynene for dem!
Hvis kvelden er god skal jeg skrive litt mer om sosiale medier og hvordan de påvirker de tradisjonelle.

Les svaret fra Espen Egil Hansen i VG Nett og nyt øyeblikket. Dette er et forvarsel for hva vi kan forvente av fremtidens journalistikk.
Ansvarlig redaktør i Norges største publikasjon svarer på kritikk på en omtalt kildes egen blogg. Han forklarer hva som har skjedd, beklager og forteller at de skal ta lærdom til fremtiden. Dessuten skriver han at dette skal gjøre mediene bedre.
Jeg håper at Bård Vegar, de andre som har kommentert, og alle som ha lest blogginnlegget biter seg merke i dette svaret. Det varsler starten på en ny tid med en journalistikk som skal bli mye bedre til glede for alle.
Vi i mediene kommer til å gjøre mange flere feil (jeg har gjort flere slike feil selv), men vi evner nå å lytte og ta lærdom for å bli bedre.
Dette synes jeg er et stort skritt i riktig retning, og det gjør at jeg gleder meg til fremtiden vår, selv om vi står foran en turbulent tid.

Veldig interessant å se svaret fra VG nett. Et tegn på en helt ny mediehverdag vi kan se frem til.
@Lærer:
Ser egentlig ikke noen grunn til å stenge ned nettopp Facebook, når elevene kommuniserer med og bruker et utall andre nettjenester i tillegg. Hvis Facebook stenges, emigrerer de til Nettby, videre til Biip, videre til MSN, videre til Twitter, etc.etc. Til og med it’slearning, som brukes av de fleste skoler med tilgang på PCer, er mulig å bruke til å sende meldinger med tekst, bilder etc.
Mulighetene er utallige, og å stenge for det ene er å åpne for det andre.

Jeg har i den siste tiden fulgt litt ekstra med på hvordan Twingly har fungert på de større nettavisene i Norge. Dette har vært ganske deprimerende, da det som fanges opp av Twingly for det aller meste er innlegg med lettvinte, populistiske kommentarer som ikke gir noen merverdi til saken. Det finnes for all del unntak, men disse drukner i “dritten”.
Det har vært naturlig å tenke at det eneste formålet med de dårlige innleggene har vært å få Twingly-treff. Spesielt når en ser at enkelte blogger er fulle av reklame. Jeg hadde derfor mistet troen på bruk av Twingly i store nettaviser.
I dag er første gang jeg har sett at Twingly har greid å linke til blogger som har gitt reell tilleggsverdi til en artikkel, artikkelen som Bård Vegar reagerte på. Bård Vegars blogg er en av de det linkes til, og det er god mulighet for at lesere av artikkelen på vg.no også vil åpne dette blogginnlegget. Det linkes også til andre blogginnlegg som gir verdi til diskusjonen om bruk av facebook i timen. Et glimrende eksempel på hva Twingly kan gjøre på en god dag.
Bård Vegar linker til vg.no, vg.no linker til Bård Vegar. Artikkelen på vg.no har blitt rettet, redaktøren for vg.no (eller VG Nett som han vil at vi skal kalle det) har skrevet en beklagelse på bloggen til Bård Vegar. Dette er veldig godt eksempel på symbiose mellom massemedia og blogger!
Håper det kommer mange flere slike eksempler fremover i tråd med Anders Brennas visjon for journalistikken.

Jeg var tilstede i salen. Jeg skrev også referat. Jeg har knapt nevnt sosiale medier, noe som tyder på at dette ikke sto frem som et kjernepunkt i foredraget. Ikke for meg i alle fall. Og det andre har hengt seg opp i var bare en liten del av et foredrag som fortalte vel så mye om hvilken vei politikk-Norge ønsker at skolen skal utvikle seg, og mye om at hva som foregår i klasserommet er i svært stor grad avhengig av læreren. Engasjerende lærere gir engasjerte elever, og Facebook blir uviktig.

Jeg var også tilstede i salen på konferansen du nevner ovenfor. Jeg er førskolelærer og jobber i barnehage.
Som vanllig når førskolelærer og lærere møtes, ligger fokuset på lærerne og skolen, noe som er natrulig i og med at de er en langt større gruppe enn oss førskolelærere. Men jeg lurer på om du i det hele tatt registrerte at det var førskolelærere der? Du nevte ikke hverken barnehager eller førskolelætere i innlegget ditt.
Noe som gjørde meg litt forundra. Er ikke IKT viktig i barnehagen? Jeg skjønner at du hadde tidspress, men du kunne nevnt oss, slikk som din kollega Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide i det minste var klok nok til å gjøre.

Viser at det er risikosport å gå veien via massemedier – VG, TV2, NRK – når man skal nå frem med et budskap. Står en skummel bukett journalister i kø for å “misforstå” i en retning som peker mot forsidene. Tryggere å levere budskapet via sosiale medier hvor det ikke er så mange som er ute etter å “ta deg”.

Jeg må si at jeg er mest overrasket over at en kunnskapsminister ikke klarer å se at dette er en NTB sak som VG Nett har lagt ut. Det hjelper lite å kjefte på VG Netts journalister når den eneste bylinen er telegrambyrået. NTB har skrevet sitatsak fra NRK, så føler du deg feilsitert er det vel greit å ta med dem?

Først en kort kommentar til siste innlegg: Når VG Nett publiserer artikkelen og samtidig i margen skryter av at “VG Nett følger Skole og utdanning”, må vel VG Nett kunne holdes ansvarlig for innholdet i artikkelen?
Ellers vil jeg bare takke for et interessant blogginnlegg fra Kunnskapsministeren og gode svar fra Espen Egil Hansen og Anders Brenna. Vi trenger en konstruktiv tilnærming til web 2.0., og mediekritikk fra publikum er bare en av de mange mulighetene web 2.0. gir oss.

Jeg var også tilstede i salen, og som Kjemikeren, har ikke jeg heller nevnt Facebook eller sosiale medier i mine notater. Jeg følte ikke at dette var noe som hadde en stor verdi i dette innlegget.
@Elisabet – du nevner at du var tilstede på Dei gode døma, som førskolelærer, og at du er skuffet over at det ikke var fokus på barnehage. Dei gode døma er arrangert av Hordaland fylkeskommune (i samarbeid med UiB), som har ansvar for de videregående skolene, og da er det naturlig at alle foredragsholdere i størst mulig grad tilpasser innholdet til målgruppen.
