Curve: Pubic Fruit
I popmusikken snakkar ein gjerne om gyldne år, år med særleg mange gode plater og med eit viktig omslag i musikken. 1967 og 1977 er slike. Eg meiner at 1991 kan vere eit slikt år. Det kan sterkast representere perioden ca 88-92 då dansemusikk og rock for alvor smelta saman. I tillegg er 1991 året der den nye gitarmusikken (shoegazing, grunge) og det vi kan kalle trip hop (Massive Attack) for alvor slår inn, og enkelte held Slint’s Spiderland for å vere det første postrock albumet.
I skuggen av alt dette debuterer Curve med tre fantastiske EP’ar. Dei gjer ut fleire album seinare, men toppar aldri desse. Eg har sett musikken skildra som å få ryggen skrapa sakte om av spisse neglar. Sjølv synest eg tidleg Curve minner meir om å bli utsett for eit frontalangrep – av lag på lag av fuzzgitar, tung bass og skarp synth. Oppå dette angrepet kvilar ein luftig og mjuk vokal, som skal mildne angrepet. Hardrock møter dansemusikk, med ein særeigen vokalprestasjon.
Alle tre 12″ platene er bra, med den siste (Cherry) som den sterkaste og mest varierte. Dei er samla på plata Pubic Fruit. Her får du også med ein versjon av “Fait Accompli”, første singelen frå debutalbumet som kom i 92. Under høyrer du “Clipped”:

Men når det gjelder årstallene dine må jeg protestere. 1977 var et bra år, men ikke helt 1979. Nevner for eksempel London Calling, Unknown Pleasures, Lodger, The River (eller var det 80?), The Wall, We’re only in it for the drugs.
