Folkehøgskulen
Eg kjenner mange som har gått på folkehøgskule. Det er ikkje rart, om lag 10% av eit årskull svingar innom i alderen 19-22 år – dei fleste året etter vidaregåande.
Mange går på eit av dei tallrike natur- eller miljøorienterte tilboda som er. Andre søker mot gode kunst og kulturtilbod – ein kan til dømes få inntrykk av at brorparten av Noregs skodespelarar har gått teaterlinja på Romerike Folkehøgskule. Det finst dessutan utallige andre retningar. Felles for mange av skulane er eit sterkt internasjonalt engasjement og eit solidaritetsengasjement, slik Nansenskolen (der eg deltok på jubileet i fjor) er eit døme på.
Skuleslaget har sin bakgrun i det grundtvigianske opprøret med den gamle puggeskulen. Det skulle vere eit skuleslag for dialog og danning. Folkehøgskulen er det nordiske bidraget til verdspedagogikken, vart det treffande sagt på rektormøtet for folkehøgskulane der eg var i dag. Folkehøgskulane står i ein tradisjon der dei kan gjere oss rikare på refleksjon og dialog. Eg meiner at verdigrunnlaget og praksisen til folkehøgskulane står nær det raud-grøne verdigrunnlaget, og ikkje minst SV sitt. Miljø, kultur, internasjonal solidaritet, demokrati – det er i kjernen av det som er viktig i mitt samfunnssyn. Heldigvis er det mange, både raud-grøne og andre, som deler dette synet.
For mange menneske i Noreg har året på folkehøgskule vore viktig. For å utvikle eit talent det ikkje var nok rom for på skulen, for å oppleve mestring, for å leve tett på andre i eit fellesskap i ein søkande periode i livet, eller for å ta eit avbrekk frå andre planar.
Rektormøtet er ein årleg arena for skulane. Her kan dei diskutere med kvarandre, og møte meg. Det er ikkje lang ein bruker på å forstå at det er ei kompetent og reflektert forsamling. Dei utfordra meg på økonomi og korleis folkehøgskular kan vere eit tilbod for ungdom som droppar ut av vidaregåande. Vi diskuterte dessutan vegen vidare for folkehøgskulen, og nokre særlege utfordringar som rekruttering av elevar med fleirspråkleg bakgrunn. Det er Folkehøgskulerådet som representerer skulane overfor myndigheitene, kompetent leia av Leon Haugsbø.
